“What are you doing?”
Brent’s inquiry to my latest obsession. I love surprising him with something new.
“Dry Brushing. You’re next.”
I love, love, love that Goop brings to light the latest in alternative and holistic healthcare. I am all over this dry brushing thing. It’s a detox and goes hand in hand with good nutrition, exercise and mindfulness.
It’s has many benefits like boosting circulation, improving digestion, flaking away dead skin cells – but the one I find most interesting is the effect it has on the lymphatic system. Here is what Goops says,
“If the lymphatic system is congested, it can lead to a build-up of toxins, causing inflammation and illness. Dry brushing stimulates the lymphatic system as it stimulates and invigorates the skin.”
I have been dry brushing for a few months now and I’m hooked. I drop some lavender essential oil on my brush after an evening bath and start at my legs moving upwards. The idea is to brush towards your heart.
I bought a simple brush on Amazon like this. It’s about $9.00.
But, you could go crazy and buy expensive brushes or different shapes and styles.
Goop does a good job of explaining why and how here:
I start by dropping some essential oil onto my brush then begin at my feet, working upward on each leg. Then I do my core, working to my heart, down my arms, back and end at my neck. Ahhh.
I have found that this little ritual does invigorate me and I have started dry brushing in the morning as well. Don’t worry, it can take 4 seconds or 4 minutes, but won’t impede on your schedule. I am now adding Goop’s suggested foam roller detox routine as well. More found here.
