Did you ever listen to Serial, the podcast created by This American Life? Serial is amazing and received so much attention about two years ago. If you have not listened, you must. The first season detailed the story of high schooler Adnan Syed and speculated whether or not he was guilty of murdering his girlfriend. The second season outlined the infamous Bowe Bergdahl and dove into all the details of his complicated story. Fascinating. This year the program brought S-Town and it does not disappoint.
What starts as a murder mystery turns into the biography of a complicated, intense, super intelligent and erratic personality, John B McLemore. The way the story unfolds allows the listener to be brought along on the adventure with host, Brian Reed.
John B. McLemore becomes the central character of the program and his life living in what he refers to as “Shit Town”, Alabama. Each episode uncovers motives and secrets kept by this fascinating clock worker, the intricate maze he’s built on his property and the treasure that may be hidden on the lot.
The story is unlike anything you’ve heard on Law and Order or Netflix. It is worth listening to the entire thing straight through because each episode makes your mouth drop open as you and the host piece together the life John.
Perfect for a long car ride or walks with the dog. Man, do I love a good mystery.
