I am a huge reader, but I must admit that I’ve never been a huge fan of Margaret Atwood. I’ve tried. I heard about The Handmaid’s Tale becoming a series and thought I could at least do that. But, when I hear the word dystopia, I want to run. Sci-Fi is not my-fi. I just can’t really relate and it has a coldness to it that I don’t want to transport myself to.
But…
I’m so glad I did. It was brilliant. Disturbing, yes, but brilliantly acted. Elizabeth Moss won the Emmy for her role and the show won 8 Emmys.
I get shivers even thinking about it because it is so relevant to what is going on in the world today. Feminism, rebellion, the marginalization of women, racism, the abuse of power, challenging hate and the system..it has all that.
There are some series that are created and are unforgettable. This is one of them. As a woman, it makes me want to rise up and question the rules that surround me, ones that I’m not supposed to question. Praise Be.
You can find the series on Hulu or buy it on Amazon like I did.
Completely agree! I still can’t stop thinking about this show and I finished it months ago! So glad you liked it as well!
