I had my first Thai massage two years ago and never looked back.
“Thai massage” or “Thai yoga massage” is an ancient healing system combining acupressure, Indian Ayurvedic principles, and assisted yoga postures.
If you asked me to define it, I’d say it’s a combination of acupressure, massage and yoga. Basically everything my body wants. I make an appointment at least every two months and look at it like much needed attention for my body to eliminate stress, tension and even my digestive issues (I have GERD and horrible reflux). Did you know that there are certain nerve endings in your back that connect to the digestive track and by pressing them you can find relief? Truth.
A Thai massage is set up a bit differently than a tradition massage. There is a mattress on the floor and you are to change into loose scrub-like clothing. The therapists that I see are all Thai, start at the feet and slowly make their way up the body, walking on your legs, back, pulling & pushing your body to release unwanted tension. The best way I can describe it is feeling like cool water being released into my body bringing needed relief. I don’t look at Thai massages as a luxury spa treatment. I look at them like a needed yoga class or therapy session.
If you are local, I highly recommend Origins Thai Spa. It is clean and professional. Also, Thai therapist recommend a 90 minute session (as opposed to 60). It does make a difference.
