Book Review – Beautiful World, Where Are You?

Beautiful World, Where Are You? by Sally Rooney

Sally Rooney is one of those authors who writes so brilliantly it almost doesn’t matter what the subject matter is. But, then she creates these complex characters and weaves their lives together in heartbreaking and beautiful ways.

If you’ve read her other books, Normal People and Conversations with Friends you will find similar themes regarding her character’s intimate relationships – always keeping the reader questioning if this is the worst thing for the character you’ve come to know or the best. I always hope for a solid resolution in the end, but alas this is Irish fiction, people.

We are never going to get a happy ending or even contentment, but maybe, just maybe a hint of acceptance within the nuance of complicated lives?

This is literary fiction, so a big of a slog in parts. But, entertaining once you commit to the storyline. It’s on EVERY book list so worth being in the know, I’d say.
